I haven’t blogged in a few weeks because we are on a family holiday. Currently in New York but getting ready to head home with a heavy heart. Being with loved ones surely makes you regret living miles apart. This year we spent Christmas with my sister in the United States. This is our first Christmas together after 6 years apart so having our families among each other on this day was special. It was fun to reminisce about different traditional Pinoy (Filipino) food we usually enjoy at Christmas time. It is a family tradition of ours to always have my Dad’s suuuper yummy macaroni salad. We all try to replicate it and never come close. Other Filipino food I always enjoy include..
Queso de bola and Buko Salad, a dessert made of coconut mixed with different fresh fruit topped off with cream while the latter is a sphere of delicious sharp cheddar cheese.
Embutido also known as meatloaf mixed with raisins, eggs and some vegetables.
My all time favorite Puto Bumbong is a rice cake eaten hot served with butter, coconut and native sugar.
Polvoron which is a sweet treat of powdered milk and sugar cooked in butter and molded into a candy- like treat
Of course this Christmas we only had macaroni salad as a Pinoy dish. We were in the USA and wanted to enjoy food we could not always eat back home. We had king crab legs in butter and garlic, rib eye steak, mashed summer squash and a Brussel sprout salad baked with olive oil, herbs, and cranberry. How did you celebrate Christmas this year?
