I was so so thrilled when I got the message that asked me to host the HGTV Asia press launch but started getting nervous the day before when they emailed me the script. I was going to interview Drew and Jonathan Scott of The Property Brothers! So there I was in between meetings, on my iphone stalking this duo on Google and You tube so I could learn more about them.
Drew and Jonathan Scott were both actors at a very young age and soon learned that real estate and investing earned big returns. With the influence of their parents, they invested in their first property at 18 and turned it around. They continued acting and eventually merged the two together by pitching real estate related shows to networks.
When we were introduced back stage, I was relieved by how friendly and quirky both brothers were. I candidly told them I watched their episodes on TV the night before and could already tell them apart. They asked me who was who, and when I answered correctly they switched places and asked me again! haha! I told them I studied Interior Design and had my own projects. We went on to talk about my stint with Extreme Makeover Home Edition Philippines and how construction is so different in the Philippines because we used cement and pouring to build structure.
I got the chance to sit in the room before the show and chat with them further when they were having lunch. It was fun getting to know things like who the older brother was and how Jonathan would get marriage proposals from fans around the world. Drew is engaged to a sweet Asian girl who was also in the room with us so that gives him the excuse to say that Jonathan is the babe magnet.
At the age of 8, their father told them they needed to earn money. They ended up working as clowns for parades and eventually Jonathan became an illusionist for big Vegas- style shows. Here is Jonathan teaching us a trick.
We played a game on stage where I asked questions and they had a paddle that said “that’s him” or “that’s me” on each side. It was really funny and the crowd got to know a bit more about them afterwards.
Some people got to join them on stage too as we had a small brother vs. brother design challenge. They had to decorate a small living room situated on each end of the room. Here is Drew trying to convince me that his living room is state of the art.
I really enjoyed meeting The Property Brothers and was truly inspired by them. Catch them on HGTV and watch their other shows like Buying and Selling and Brother vs. Brother.
Don’t miss them on Sky Cable in the Philippines on channel 88 in SD and Channel 246 in HD.
