In case you haven’t noticed, an organized minimal closet is in and a cluttered overflowing closet is outdated. We see gorgeous photos of super neat closets and wonder if they really live like that. In this blog post, I’ll show you just how it can be done. Why is a neat and organized closet so important? It frees your mind of chaos, you learn to let go and you spend less time thinking of what to wear because everything is systematically arranged. I know we’ve all had moments where we look for something desperately, wanting to use it for a particular event but can’t seem to find it. We’ve got too many tops. Countless bottoms and too many shoes that have disintegrated into powder. Why do we live like this? We need to let go and put order into our lives. We need to take charge of our wardrobe closets and not let the clothes take charge of us!
Begin by spring cleaning.
Let go of things you have not worn in the last 6 months.
Let go of clothing from the past decade.
Let go of anything worn out, faded or anything that “I can have fixed”
When spring cleaning I use four bins or trash bags labelled 1. throw away 2. donate 3. relocate 4. sell.
Aim to have a capsule wardrobe with a few exciting pieces.
A capsule wardrobe is a compact wardrobe made of versatile pieces that you love which you can mix and match.
Divide your clothes into two sets by season and put off-season clothes in boxes.
For countries with four seasons, divide your wardrobe into two. Summer and spring go together while another set is for fall and winter. Keep off-season clothing in storage bags, decorative boxes or vacuum storage bags. Make sure you add some silicon sachets to absorb moisture!
For tropical countries, you may skip this part or divide your wardrobe into dry and wet seasons.

Empty your closet out and begin cleaning, sorting and storing.
Give your closet surfaces a good clean, using a vacuum cleaner for dust. Search for mold and kill them with bleach wipes or vinegar. Disinfect with your favorite home spray solution. Begin with everything that need to go in a hanger. Put all tops together. Thick coats go together, long-sleeved tops next, and sleeveless tops last. Sort according to color and texture.
