I’ve been thinking about footwear lately. As we grow older, comfort seems to precede fashion statements just as function precedes form in interior design. Aside from cushioning, arch and support seems to be very important as well as insoles for flat feet. Thankfully there are a number of orthopedic sandals and shoe brands in the market today that offer comfort and support in stylish designs. Here are a few of my top picks:
Speaking of shoes, how do you feel about bringing outside shoes into your house? I personally think you should always remove your dirty shoes and put them in a shoe storage place when you enter your home. Wearing dirty shoes into the home not only bring the obvious like soil but tons of bacteria and germs as well. Think about places you’ve stepped on during the day. A public bathroom floor? Bird poop and much more.. gross! I recently implemented this rule and though I am still struggling to get my hubby to remember to remove his shoes, my children have gotten used to it. That being said, don’t just leave your shoes out there, create a stylish and pretty shoe storage container for your entryway.
Here are some ideas of easy to do shoe storage containers:
Use baskets as shoe storage just like these from Cozy Cottage Cute.
Ikea sells slim shoe cabinets and they look very stylish. See this from Apartment Therapy.
If you’re feeling a bit lazy and want to skip the whole DIY process, buy some nice looking baskets for each family member just like this home owner did from Damasketdentelle .
Maybe you have the luxury of planning things and can gut out some dry wall to make room for embedded shoe drawers? I think Lemon Thistle did an amazing job here!
A Beautiful Mess made this super entryway by placing a vintage looking bench and a rustic basket to toss your shoes in.
And the best of all of course goes to a home featured on Mocha Casa because they have an entire shoe cabinet and coat room under the stairway.
My own little shoe basket is going to look funny compared to all of these gorgeous ones but I’m going to be fair and show you all anyway.. Here is my entry way and a close up of our shoe basket.
I wanted something that had a lid on top because seeing all the multi- colored shoes would probably drive me nuts. My kids simply toss their shoes in here and we clean them up with disinfectant wipes before putting them back into the closets. There are so many ideas you can find on Pinterest. I absolutely love that you have the patience to live in a house that needs so much work in order to get things done in your own special way. It makes the process interesting and reading your blog great.
