I recently had the opportunity to conduct a workshop with Ethan Allen Philippines teaching my audience to make their own natural home cleaning agents with essential oils. Ethan Allen, a well-known American furniture brand established in 1936 at Vermont now has numerous branches in different countries. In the Philippines it is owned by Focus Global Inc. I was delighted to partner with them for a nice workshop over a sumptuous brunch made in Focus Global’s very own Miele’ kitchen. The topic was something very close to my heart because I’ve long believed in the importance of awareness when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle and I’ve recently been a big user of essential oils.
Did you know that a 20-year longitudinal study conducted by scientists at the University of Bergen in Norway has found that using cleaning products can be as harmful as smoking 20 cigarettes a day. SOURCE: FORBES.COM
According to EWG or The Environmental Working Group which is a non profit organization focused on the environment and public health, only 7% of cleaning products disclosed their contents. After 14 months of heavy research, they reported that 53% of cleaning brands currently under review already contained lung harming ingredients. In addition, carcinogens and ingredients like formaldehyde were found in several cleaners. SOURCE: Huffington Post
These are compelling reason for me to be more conscious about the cleaning products and cosmetics I use for our family. The guest got to make their own cleaning agents and body scrub with the use of natural substances like vinegar and epsom salt. Here is a link to the recipes of the stuff we made.
With the use of some beakers and natural substances, we had fun playing scientist as we made our own disinfectant, linen spray and body scrub.
