I came across some photos of home offices and it led me to search for more ideas. Now I want to redo my own work space! Can’t make any major renovation but I could probably add a few pockets and boxes on top of my desk for better organization. Not many people have enough space for a home office yet there are numerous ways to create one. Here are a few ideas:
1. Use an armoire.
Remember your ancestral aparadors also known as an armoire from the French? These are standing closets used for storing clothes which can purposely be transformed into a home office system. Get creative and re- paint in cheerful colors, line the backing with wall paper and add some more shelves to suit your needs.
2. Build it into a wall and add a murphy table.
A murphy table is something you can fold up into the wall. A brilliant idea for a workspace as you’ll only need to recess a portion of about 3″ minimum. The recessed portion isn’t actually a necessity, but it is quite useful as it provides a ledge to put things on.
3. Use built in closet space and camouflage to achieve a clean look.
Most rooms come with a space designated for closets. These provide a great option for a home office. Simply fix with shelves and configure to meet your requirements. The nice thing about this particular photo is how the closet doors were made to camouflage and look like part of the wall. This make things look neat and if you don’t want to show all your clutter at the end of the day you can simply shut doors.
4. Add a loft or landing and build your office haven.
Talk to your architect about the possiblility of using vertical space in your home. Most stairwells or any space with high ceiling can accommodate a platform wide enough to create an office nook.
5. A chest or furniture made for office supplies can be quite functional.
If you simply have no room for a home office nook, use your dining table, but have a closet or chest designated for office supplies. This helps keep things organized and makes things more efficient for your make shift office area.
