With a little bit of imagination and creativity, every odd corner and space in your home can be transformed into something purposeful. Have you ever been lost as to what you can do with odd corners and dead spots in your home? As an interior stylist, I often try to make the most of every space. With the lack of storage and the need for useful surface, making the most of space is important. Think about your blank walls, the space beneath a staircase or even a corner in an odd shaped room. These all can be turned into something purposeful. Here are some common areas in your home that can be transformed into something useful.
A Portion of Any Structural Post.
Posts that are structural are usually constructed by pouring cement to wrap around the mighty steel membranes. These cannot be tampered with but if you add a shallow shelf with wood to add purpose to the odd post that juts out, you add functional and aesthetic style to your space.
Any Part of Your Home Between a Doorway and Wall
If space allows and if you have an awkward useless corner, turn it into a vertical closet space for cleaning supplies or sports equipment. The trick is to make the closet door the same color as your surrounding walls so that it doesn’t appear to be conspicuous.
A Useless Corner in an Odd Shaped Room
Rectangular rooms are usually difficult to arrange. You can’t put the sofa against the back wall only to have your television on the far front end. You usually have to float furniture around leaving useless space in some area. Create an extra seating nook or reading corner to add purpose while keeping the space stylish.
A Small Stairway Landing
Some houses have a small stairway landing barely big enough to function as a room itself. It would be a shame if small spaces like these end up as a stock room of sorts, so styling it into a game room, a home office or a reading nook is a great way to make these spaces functional.
The Space Under The Staircase
There are lots of things that can be done with the piece of space under the staircase. Ideas include a powder room, a coat and shoe room, a reading nook, a storage area and much more.
