Christmas decorating can be fun, but for some it is a daunting task. “Do we have enough Christmas decor?” asked my husband one morning. We decided to spend the holidays at our Hong Kong apartment, and his family is coming over. It’s going to be a cold cozy Christmas. One evening, I started pinning away on Instagram. I have 2 boards dedicated to this most joyous occasion, and you can check it out here. I never used to like red, but for some reason going traditional appealed to me this time.
As you enter our main door, a cozy foyer greets you. I simply put a bunch of fresh Eucalyptus in our Umbra hanging vase and hung a gold Christmas wreathe onto the H&M Home mirror.
Our dining room was the only spot for the tree. It turned out to be a little bit short for our ceiling height so I raised it up by putting wooden crates inside the tree skirt. I had a Scandinavian print designed with a Bible verse to remind us of the true meaning for the season.
We also made our own Advent calendar. We used cork board and little envelopes which we stamped with numbers for each day in December. Inside the envelopes are little activities the kids can do for the season. They are absolutely excited and curious but I told them they can’t open the envelopes until December 1.
Our living rooms holds some decor like cushions, small fresh pine trees and pine cones. Tiny details like spray painting berries gold or tying ribbons to little ornaments can instantly turn them into useful holiday decor.
Once our guests arrive, I plan to buy more fresh eucalyptus and make some home-made Christmas scent to complete the holiday vibe. There were a lot of restrictions like space, and installing things in a rental apartment but I had to make do. Overall I am not 100% satisfied but being content and remembering that Christmas is about Christ, about love and sharing is what counts. Have you started decorating yet? I’d love to see your photos!
