I know it is a little bit late but today is the first day of work for me as a blogger. We’re still getting over the perplexing phenomenon called jet lag, where your kids wake up at 3am telling you they’re hungry and where you begin to fall asleep during the day while texting. Before I let you in on some details of our holiday travels, let’s welcome this new year with an inspiring post to get us all motivated. I’ve curated 12 ways to improve in various aspects related to the home. Happy New Year!
- Install some shelves and ledges for added storage and display.
One of the easiest ways to utilize a blank wall is to add shelves. Treated, finished wood can easily be purchased from home depots and with a few bolts and a drill, you can make a functional and decorative feature for your home.
2. Hydrate and drink more water.
Kaiser Permanente nephrologist Steven Guest, MD, said: “Fluid losses occur continuously, from skin evaporation, breathing, urine, and stool, and these losses must be replaced daily for good health.” We should all aim to drink at least 8 ounces or a liter at the least of water a day. If adding a twist to this ordinary beverage will make it more appealing to you then you should try these recipes from Brit.co because they not only look pretty, they taste pretty good too!
3. Create a pretty hanging rod for better organization in the home.
Take a hike around the neighborhood, or if you are blessed with a lush back yard, grab a garden tool and chop a good sturdy branch off a tree to turn into a nice hanging rod. This is useful for clothes you want to wear for the day, kitchen utensils, fruits, veggies, linen and more.
4. Determine to dress better this year.
I believe that looking good makes us feel good so getting out of your usual t-shirt, sweats and rubber slippers could be beneficial. It doesn’t mean having to dress with luxury name brands and the latest trends but rather looking put together and stylish in a way you will love.
5. Get some washi tape and transform something in your home.
I love washi tape, it instantly reforms anything you put it on and make your space look happy. Transform walls, appliances, decorate boxes and revamp furniture pieces with this easy craft material.
6. Create an adorable play station for you child.
The moment I saw this photo, I just had to pin it for something to do in the future. It is simply brilliant and too pretty to overlook. With some good lumber or plywood, paint and a dash of creativity, you’ll have a cool play station and storage space for your child.
7. Be kind to yourself and vow to eat healthier this year.
With all the hormones, nitrates, and chemicals compounded into most food these days, being health conscious is deeply necessary. There are tons of healthy and delicious meal recipes today that we almost should have no excuse to go for fast food, canned or processed food. I love this recipe from grokgrub.com .. a perfect example of a healthy meal. Avocados are rich in good fat, eggs especially if organic is a good source of protein and all the herbs just add color and flavor.
8. Invest in decorative storage containers for the home.
It’s high time we all get rid of the usual plastic containers and dump them for pretty containers, tin cans or baskets to add some life to the home. Great sources would be H&M Home, Pottery Barn, West Elm, Muji and some leading departments stores.
9. Drop your work and make fun messy memories with your kids.
“They will only be kids once.” We’ve all heard this line before and there is true meaning behind it. Making memories and having fun with your kids by doing outdoor play and crafts will always be an awesome way to bond with your children. For a list of great things you can do with your children visit growing a jeweled rose.
10. Make your own Art and prints to liven up those dreary walls.
I like buying frames from the home section of department stores and making my own Art to put in them and hang on my walls. This photo from hello fashion blog shows how you can make something pretty with just a few scribbles and coloring material.
11. Change those old and uninspired cooking pans into safer and prettier ones.
A lot of those former cooking pans are no longer safe for health and materials like Teflon have now been banned. It’s a perfect reason to discard and buy new ones.
12. Put more plants inside your home.
Adding plants into your home not only make things look beautiful, they represent life and clean indoor air too. I love happy interior blog because it is filled with lots of inspiring ideas on how you can incorporate greenery into your home.
Hope you enjoyed this post and get motivation to try out one or two of these suggestion to make a better home for you and your loved ones. Happy New Year and wishing us all a better 2016 than last year.
